Compassionate Friends Candle Lighting - December 10, 2017

Join the Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting on Sunday, December 10.  As candles are lit at 7:00 p.m. local time, family and friends around the globe will honor the memories of the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and grandchildren who left too soon.

"The Compassionate Friends is about transforming the pain of grief into the elixir of hope. It takes people out of the isolation society imposes on the bereaved and lets them express their grief naturally. With the shedding of tears, healing comes. And the newly bereaved get to see people who have survived and are learning to live and love again."

Honoring Laura Homan  - July 2017

It is with sadness and the utmost respect that we honor our friend Laura Homan. Laura was a key part of all the catered receptions and gatherings we held at Windmere Hall. These events are always a great deal of work, oftentimes with last minute adjustments and changes.  Laura made sure everything was done, always with a smile and a story. She recruited the help, planned the meals, divided up the responsibilities and saw the receptions were completed to everyone’s satisfaction. In addition to her hard work and dedication, we appreciated her kind heart and compassion. Occasionally a family would request a special food item that their now deceased loved one enjoyed, and Laura was always able to accommodate them. Those are the little things that brighten the days of people having just laid a loved one to rest; Laura was wonderful at providing them. We are grateful for the time we worked with Laura and for the piece of her light that we carry within us now. Thank you, Laura.

Caring for Yourself While Caring for Others: Managing Grief & Loss

This workshop will provide information about managing grief and loss as you care for yourself while also caring for others. We all experience loss in a variety of ways, from death, changes in relationships, illnesses, moves, etc. Grief is the natural reaction to these losses. In order to do our best in caring for others, we need to learn how to attend to our own grief, and companion others through theirs in a life enhancing way.

In this workshop, you will take an inventory of your loss history, learn about the grief journey and practice skills to help you cope. Who should attend? Anyone who works in a helping profession is invited to attend.

The workshop will be presented by Brenda Kim, MSW, LCSW, Social Worker in the Centre Region, and Jackie Hook, MA, Spiritual Director and Celebrant, Helping Grieving Hearts Heal, Koch Funeral Home.

The registration fee includes light morning refreshments and materials.

We encourage you to share this workshop information with your colleagues and with others who may be interested. All are welcome!  Please register by Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 4:00 p.m.
