BREAKING NEWS - Consumer Alert / Protect Consumers - Senate Bill 874

PFDA LogoA fact you should know when pre-planning a funeral:

The Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association (PFDA) has launched a media campaign to educate Pennsylvania consumers about “constructive delivery.”

“Constructive delivery” is the result of the Future Interment Act of 1952 that permitted cemeteries to use 30% of their sales for current expenses and place the remaining 70% into a trust for the future when the merchandise was needed.   In recent years large corporate owned cemeteries invented "constructive delivery" so they could actually use that 70% prior to the time of need.  This means they purchase merchandise, such as caskets and vaults, at the time of sale and then store them, often outside or buried underground, until the time of death.  As a comparison, Pennsylvania funeral homes are required to place 100% of the money in a trust until the time of death.  This means the merchandise they provide is not purchased until the time of need.

Our desire is for all families to understand what is happening to their money when they make pre-arrangements to bury and memorialize a loved one.  To that end we encourage you to view this video

If you are interested in helping pass PA Senate Bill 874 to eliminate “constructive delivery,” please click here to contact your legislator today.

To learn more go to the PFDA website or contact F. Glenn Fleming and he will be happy to help you with any questions or concerns you may have.  Thank you for taking the time to consider this.
