Obituary of George Harold Shermer

George Harold Shermer, 92, of Port Matilda, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Cumberland Crossings, in Carlisle. Born October 20, 1923, in Hazelton, he was the son of the late Clarence and Edna Moyer Shermer. On March 24, 1950, he married Lillian Wesgaites, who survives. Also surviving are two children, Susan Shermer and her husband, Mel Woolf, of Harrisburg and Lori Shermer of Mt. Holly Springs; two granddaughters, Sara and Rebekah Woolf. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark P. Shermer and his sister, Irene Shermer. He graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor's degree in Commerce and Finance in 1950. George served in the United States Army during World War II. He retired as the Director of Finance at Harrisburg Hospital. George was Lutheran by faith. Visitation will be from 1 until 3 p.m., on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in a National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parks Conservation Association, 777 6th St. N. W. Suite 700, Washington, DC 20001-3723.
