Obituary of Osvaldo C. Scabbiolo

Osvaldo Clemente Scabbiolo, 92, of Clearfield, formerly of State College, PA and Buenos Aires, Argentina, died Monday, July 18, 2016, at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born July 24, 1923, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he was the son of the late Carlos D. E. and Rodolfina Raddavero Scabbiolo. On August 9, 1951 he married Luisa A. Tiscornia, who preceded him in death. He is survived by two children, Mercedes N. Lakhtakia and her husband, Akhlesh, of State College and Carlos A. Scabbiolo of Buenos Aires, Argentina; one brother, Rodolfo P. Scabbiolo and his wife, Lía, of Castellón de la Plana, Spain; one granddaughter, Natalya S. Lakhtakia and her husband, Andrew W. Beatty, of Ballston Lake, NY and one great-grandson. He owned and operated La Pastora, a deli in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He also spent a lot of time in Mar del Plata, Argentina, where he loved to tend to his garden. He was an animal lover, but hummingbirds were especially dear to his heart. Hummingbirds are plentiful in Mar del Plata, and many would visit him as he watered his plants. He loved to photograph them as well. He was thrilled to travel halfway around the world to Spain or Italy to visit family, but he was just as happy to travel by car on a quick trip to the store. He adored the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts and visited almost every year. He loved to build miniature houses, usually one a year. He also painted, gardened, and built furniture. He was a member of Club Atlético Boca Juniors - the official fan club for his neighborhood soccer team in Buenos Aires. He joined the club when he was 7 years old and never let his membership lapse. He was devoted to his team, and would watch or listen to as many games as he could via internet. He will be profoundly missed. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
