Obituary of Joseph Banks

Joseph Bernard Banks, resident of State College, died August 19, 2016 at the age of 84. He was born July 31, 1932 in Sunbury, Pa. He was preceded in death by parents, Lewis Banks and Florence Newman Banks and brother, Robert Banks. Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a 1953 graduate of Penn State. He was a nature preservationist and a 40 year member of Sierra Club. He received the Ingrid P Holtzman Award for improving the appearance of the Borough of State College, was a founder of Tudek Park Community Gardens and assisted with the acquisition of land for the Stan Yoder Memorial Preserve. His greatest memories were his travels to the US national parks, time spent in South America, and the many conversations and debates he had with his close friends. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten. No memorial service will be given. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
