Obituary of Clarence Newton Florey

Clarence “Sonny” Newton Florey, 80, of State College, died Saturday, October 15, 2016, at home. Born July 24, 1936, in State College, he was the son of the late Ralph Newton and Carrie Rose Parker Flory. On Christmas Eve, 1955 Sonny married Marjorie E. Lear, who survives at home. In addition to his wife of 61 1/2 years, he is survived by his children, Rose Fritts of Julian, Barbara Rider of Julian, Debra Hollenback and her husband, Jeffery, of Wingate, Clarence , Jr. of Bellefonte, Thomas and his wife, Tracy, of Centre Hall, and Carl of State College; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Jane Zonge and her husband, Gilbert, of New Jersey, France Spicer of Shamokin , and MaryAnn Flory and Allen Ghaner, of Port Matilda. He was preceded in death his son, Paul; four brothers; and three sisters. Sonny attended State College High School. He worked in the maintenance department of The Apartment Store. Sonny enjoyed doing small engine repairs on tractors in his free time. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College, PA. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon, on Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Susan Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery.
