Obituary of Hayden Adams Clark

Hayden Adams Clark, 66, of State College, died Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. Born July 20, 1950, in Asheville, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Philip Trowbridge and Luelle Mitchell Clark. On October 14, 1995, he married Judith Hewes, who survives. Also surviving is a step-daughter, Megan M. Miller and her husband, Troy M. Miller of Julian; two step-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Timothy Miller of Julian; two sisters, Alden Clark and her husband, Gerard Fritz, of Matthews, North Carolina; and Adelaide Carpenter and her husband, Aubrey de Grey, of Cambridge, UK. Hayden was a 1968 graduate of Charles D. Owen High School in Swannanoa, North Carolina. He received a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina in 1973. He received his PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Penn State University in 1980. Hayden was employed by Dow Chemical Company and served as project manager in the Materials Science and Development Laboratory. Throughout his life he enjoyed a variety interests. He was an avid reader and collector of books, particularly mysteries. He also enjoyed gardening, hiking the mountains of Central Pennsylvania, and sailing inland lakes and the Chesapeake Bay. He took great pleasure in day trips, driving the twisting back mountain roads of Pennsylvania. Hayden was a member of the American Contract Bridge League, where he achieved the rank of Silver Life Master. Over the years he served as a bridge instructor and as a director of the State College Bridge Studio. The family will welcome friends to celebrate Hayden's life on Sunday, Oct 30, 2016, from 1:00-3:30 p.m. at Toftrees Golf Resort and Conference Center, Cedar Cove Room, One Country Club Lane, State College Pa., 16803.
