Born November 30, 1923, in State College, he was the son of the late Lynn Robert and Edna Mary Updegraff Daugherty. On May 2, 1959 in Orrville, Ohio, Albert married Martha Sprunger, who preceded him in death on March 8, 2008. He was named after his paternal grandfather, Albert Nichol Daugherty. Always wanting to be a pilot, Albert received his private pilot's license after the war, and would fly out of the State College Air Depot run by Sherm Lutz. He would often recount the story when he flew Penn State President Milton Eisenhower down to Washington, D.C. to visit his brother "Ike", President of the United States. Albert was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture as a Dairy Inspector for 35 years until his retirement in 1991. Albert was a member of the State College Christian Missionary Alliance Church and served as an Elder and a head greeter for over 45 years.
