Obituary of Barbara B. Sarra

Barbara B. Sarra, 76, of State College, died Monday, November 28, 2016, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born December 4, 1939, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Theodore F. and Regina Jaskolski Benjeski. On October 29, 1960, she married Joseph D. Sarra, who preceded her in death on July 19, 2012. She is survived by two sons, Joseph D. Sarra, Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Hidden Valley and Scott S. Sarra and his wife, Cathy, of Reading; one brother, Theodore R. Benjeski of Rochester, NY; three grandchildren, Kristin Marone, Joseph Sarra and Eric Sarra. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Rita Jackson. Barbara was a 1957 graduate of Duquesne High School. She earned a bachelor's degree in Education from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1961. She was employed as a school teacher for 15 years in the Easton Area School District. She was then employed by Penn State University in Development for 15 years. Barbara loved the beach, her dog Oscar and had a strong passion for gardening. Visitation will be from 1 until 3 p.m., on Sunday, December 4, 2016, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m., on Monday, December 5, 2016 at the funeral home with Celebrant Jackie Hook officiating. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery. In light of Barbara's strong passion for gardening, the family is requesting natural plants or flowers to adorn her service. Afterwards they will be donated in her memory to the Juniper Village at Brookline, Well Spring Memory Care, in appreciation for the care they provided to her late husband, Joseph D. Sarra.
