Obituary of George Wheeland
George D. Wheeland (Duane), 79 of Pennsylvania Furnace lost his courageous battle with cancer on February 23, 2017 at home.
Duane was born on May 2, 1937 in Pine Grove Mills, PA to the late George C. Wheeland and B. Isabelle Neidigh Wheeland. On October 8, 1955, he married Jane Wheeland (Harpster).
Duane's family was his pride and joy, he is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane, three children, Denny Wheeland (Linda) of Port Matilda, Sue Jones (Jim) of Pleasant Gap and Sherri Letterman (Dave) of State College. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and their spouses/companion, 9 great grandchildren, two sisters, Doris Harpster (Sunday) and Jane Brown both of Bellefonte and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 great grandchildren (twins), a brother Gerald Wheeland (Jake), and his stepmother Grace Wheeland.
Services for Duane will be held on Friday March 3, 2017 at Koch Funeral home at 2401 S. Atherton Street State College. Family and friends will be received from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm immediately followed by a memorial service. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
