Obituary of Beatrice Ann Rhodes

Beatrice Ann Rhodes 85 of State College died Wednesday May 31, 2017 at Hearthside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Beatrice was born November 13, 1931 in Martinsburg PA and resided in State College for over 55 years. She was the daughter of Louis G. and Kathryn (Detwiler) Ehredt of Roaring Spring, PA. In 1957 she married James K. Rhodes of Roaring Spring, who preceded her in death in August 2001.

She is survived by three children, Jeffrey A. Rhodes of Los Angeles, CA, Steven S. Rhodes of Alexandria, VA, and James R. Rhodes of Baltimore, MD. Beatrice is also survived by a daughter-in-law Lisa Rhodes and Grandson, Brett Rhodes of Alexandria, VA.

Beatrice graduated from Martinsburg, PA High School in 1949 and later from South Hills Business School in State College. In her early days after high school, Beatrice was a professional big band singer. She went on to a diverse professional career including jobs as a telephone operator, hospital emergency room reception and various administrative positions (all while raising three boys).

Beatrice was a member St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove Mills PA and longtime resident at Mt. Nittany Residences in State College, PA. Beatrice had an irrepressible sense of humor, enjoyed singing and dancing, and was an avid dog lover.

A short service followed by a celebration of life will be held at the Mt. Nittany Residences, State College, PA on Sunday June, 11 2017 beginning 1:00 PM.
