Obituary of Courtney Elizabeth McGhee

Courtney Elizabeth McGhee, 41, of Bellefonte, died Monday, June 5, 2017 at home, the result of domestic violence. Courtney's daughter, parents, sisters, family, and friends want her to be remembered as a beautiful, bubbly, smart, loving, and courageous woman. Born on February 26, 1976, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of John E. and Bernadette McLaughlin-Mackel Dill of Karthaus. On August 29, 2003, she married Charles Eric McGhee, who survives. She is also survived by her daughter, Mariah Amara McGhee; two sisters, Bernadette Ditty-Hynd and her husband, Troy, of Tyrone, and Kristin A. Shirey and her husband, Brian Wimer of Boalsburg, as well as her nieces, Stephanie Keith and her husband, Dan, of Hollidaysburg, Elizabeth Ditty of Tyrone, and nephew R.J. Shirey of Boalsburg. A 1994 graduate of West Branch Area High School, she received a Bachelor's Degree in Communications from Lock Haven University in 1998. She was employed as the Branch Manager of the North Atherton Street Fulton Bank for the past three years. Prior to that, she was employed at Kish Bank, Citizens Bank, PNC Bank, and Bank of America. Throughout her financial career she was very passionate and committed to serving her customers and her coworkers. Courtney was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Spring Mills. To all who knew her, Courtney was a compassionate person, a devoted mother and a woman who lived her life to the fullest. She enjoyed her home, time at the pool, and trips to Disney and the beach with her daughter. She loved fashion and bonded with her daughter over shopping, nails and makeup. Courtney was kind to everyone—the person who would drop everything to do anything for someone, even a total stranger, in need. She humbly lived her faith, a source of inspiration and strength to those around her. Her infectious laugh and positive outlook will be especially remembered by her friends and family whose lives she touched so profoundly. She will live on the lives of all those she loved. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College.
