Obituary of Aileen Homan

Aileen Y. "Cookie" Homan, 85, of Pennsylvania Furnace, died Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the Fairways at Brookline Village, State College. Born February 8, 1926, in Lake City, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Roy H. and Marietta Moore Yingling. On October 17, 1946 she married S. Elwood Homan, who survives. She is survived by her children, Nancy Beck and her husband, John, of Gainsville, FL., Sue Lower and her husband, Ken, of Brockport, NY, Ellen Deno and her husband, Scott, of State College, Patti Barnes and her husband, David, of Melbourne, FL., Samuel Homan and his wife, Carla, of State College, Lois Zimmerman and her husband, John, of Bellefonte, Wayne Homan and his wife, Robin, of Pennsylvania Furnace, and Julie Fritz and her husband, Peter, of Phoenix, AZ. ; a sister, Doris Grove and her husband, Tom Knauff, of Julian, a brother, Neil B. Yingling and his wife, Dorothy, of Holly Hill, FL.; 20 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one great grandson, Kamran Barnes Rajaee and two brothers, Winston and Arden Yingling. She was a 1943 graduate of State College High School. Aileen was a Secretary for the State College Area School District transportation office for 7 ½ years. She was also a secretary for Penn State University Continuing Education, a school bus driver for SCASD, and worked in the catalog department of Pattee at Penn State University. She was a member of Centre Community Church of Christ. Aileen was also a member of the Baileyville Grange, Ferguson TWP Garden Club, Ferguson TWP Industrial Authority, Ferguson TWP Supervisor, Member of the Centre Region Council of Governments, 24 year member of the board of the Centre County Solid Waste Authority, 23 years as their Chairwoman, Board Member of the Agricultural Land Preservation-Farmland Trust, Rebekah Lodge, Guide at the Pasto Agricultural Museum, Business and Professional Women's Club, Hemlock Girl Scout Leader, Women's Christian Temperance Union, she taught Vacation Bible School at the Fairbrook United Methodist Church where she also started the Couple's Club, member of the church bowling league, a Hospice Volunteer, Volunteer for the Republican Party, and a member and first woman president of the State and International Flying Farmers. Visitation will be 1-4 and 6-8p.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral service will be 11a.m., Thursday, July 21st, at the funeral home with Austin Homan and Bob White officiating. Burial will be in Graysville Cemetery.
