Obituary of Helen Luke Kenworthy

Helen Luke Kenworthy, 100, of State College, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 31, 2017 at the Village at Penn State. Helen was born in Shanghai, China to George and Adella Luke on June 29, 1917. She graduated from Moscow (Idaho) High School. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree from the University of Idaho, and a master's degree from the University of Montana. She married Max Kenworthy, and they spent 30 years in Army service, settling in State College in 1968. She earned her PhD from the Pennsylvania State University in 1976, and was subsequently employed by Penn State. She travelled in Europe, the Middle East, Egypt, and to Korea, China, Japan, and Taiwan. She was involved in the KK( sorority and the Palmer Museum on the Penn State campus. She enjoyed antiquing, and knitting toddler sweaters for the State College Presbyterian Church charities. Helen is survived by her son Donald Kenworthy of Manassas, VA, her granddaughters Hilary and husband John Robinson, of North Easton, MA, Natalie and husband Christopher Short of Haymarket, VA, and Ashley and husband Philip Robertson of Chantilly, VA, as well as her brother Charles Luke of Lake Chelan, WA. She leaves behind three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Max, her parents, and brothers Connell and Harvard Luke and sister Irene Grover. Reverend Dean Lindsey of the State College Presbyterian Church will officiate a memorial service at the church on December 4, 2017 at 10:30 AM. Koch Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery on December 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to: "Penn State" and directed to the Palmer Museum of Art; mail to Penn State, One Old Main, University Park, PA 16802; or to the United Ostomy Associations of America; or to the American Cancer Society. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Atrium and the Village at Penn State. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
