Obituary of Caroline Waddington

Caroline H. Waddington, 76, of Boalsburg, died Monday, December 20, 2010 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born January 15, 1934, in Raleigh, NC., she was the daughter of the late Angus L. and Hester (Battley) Wicker. On May 7, 1955, she married Donald V. Waddington who survives at home. Caroline is survived by her children, Mary M. Waddington of State College, PA., James D. Waddington of Bradenton, Fl., Lauretta E. Mann and her husband, Marcus, of Portsmouth, NH., Katherine E. Lirette and her husband, Richard, of Pace, Fl., David G. Waddington and his wife, Monica, of Springfield, VA., and Douglas M. Waddington of Pleasant Gap, PA. She is also survived by her twin brother, Angus M. "Mack" Wicker of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan D. Mann, a sister, Anne Waddington and a brother-in-law, Harold T. Waddington. She was a 1952 graduate of Barium Springs High School in North Carolina. She attended Beaver College in Jenkinstown, PA for two years majoring in Physical Education. She was a member of the State College Presbyterian Church, where she served as an ordained deacon and a Junior High Youth group leader. Caroline enjoyed participating in and watching sporting events. Basketball was her favorite. She and her twin brother, Mark, were named most valuable basketball players of the boys' and girls' basketball teams, respectively, at Barium Springs High School. She was also named to the All-Conference Team of the Western North Carolina High School Athletics Association for the South Piedmont Conference. Caroline enjoyed playing Bridge, reading, and gardening. She was a member of the Boalsburg Ladies Lunch Bunch. She was an excellent seamstress and dressmaker. She showed a strong devotion to her pets, 3 surviving cats. A Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. The funeral will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the State College Presbyterian Church, 132 West Beaver Ave., State College with Rev. Joel Blunk officiating. Interment will be in Boalsburg Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the State College Presbyterian Church, 132 West Beaver Ave., State College, PA 16801.
