A third connection between grief and freedom is the recognition that as Thomas Merton, a Trappist monk and author, once said, “There is in all visible things…a hidden wholeness.” Even when you feel broken on the outside, is it possible that deep within there is a hidden wholeness? And is freedom available in that wholeness? My training and bias say yes! The challenge is to allow the grief while also connecting to that hidden wholeness. This is part of the spiritual journey with freedom a key component.
