Continuing our discussion of Dr. Karen Wyatt’s seven ways to use grief to unite us from the End-of-Life University podcast, “How Grief Unites Us: To Stand Together for Love,” below are the next three:
3. Remember that everyone you meet has suffered loss and pain – Death, loss and grief are universal experiences. It happens to everyone. Maybe people you meet haven’t lost a loved one recently, but they may still be grieving the loss of a job, a relationship, their health, etc. It helps you to connect if you remember we all have suffering in our lives.
4. Before judging another acknowledge that person’s suffering – The actions of others are influenced by the pain they’re experiencing. It can help you stay away from judgment if you acknowledge the suffering of others.
5. Have conversations about grief and loss with those you have conflicts with –When you find yourself in conflict, it can help to have an honest conversation about your pain and loss. These conversations can dispel differences.
And remember, depending on where you are on your grief journey, you may only be ready to think about the first way.
