Last week I posed the question, “What are the moments when you feel ‘the rapture of being alive?’” When we think about feeling alive, we usually think about moments of joy, happiness and bliss. However, we can also feel fully alive in sadness, fear and despair. For me, grief has sometimes felt like a shadow that lingers behind until I allow it and then it overtakes my whole being - I’m fully alive. It is painful but not as painful as avoiding it. I try to breathe in the moments for I trust they will pass. I also trust that as Robert Frost said, “The best way out is always through.”
