Continuing with our theme, “Nurturing One Step at a Time,” as we discussed last week, nurture comes from the Latin root nutrire which means “to suckle” or “to nourish.” When I was a younger mother, I was a La Leche League leader and helped women with their breastfeeding relationships with their children. As a leader, I often shared a phrase, “Watch the baby, not the clock.” The intention was to encourage mothers to pay attention to their babies and respond to their cues, not to worry about a timeline someone else created. The same can be said for nurturing one step at a time on our grief journeys – watch our grief, not the clock. And then provide our grief with the nourishment it needs. How can we nourish our grief? We’ll look at that next week.
