Obituary of Suzanne C. DeTuerk

Suzanne C. DeTuerk, 75, of State College, died peacefully surrounded by family Tuesday, May 12,2015, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. Born December 13, 1939 in Pittsburgh , PA, she was the daughter of Leon P. and Gilly Davis Cogswell. She married James R. DeTuerk, on September 10, 1960, who survives at home. She is survived by two children, Stephen Davis DeTuerk, and his wife, DonnaMarie Toto DeTuerk, of State College, Dana DeTuerk Koval and her husband, Peter, of Greensboro, NC, a sister, Lynne Burke and her husband, Michael, of The Villages, FL, three grandchildren, Siena R. DeTuerk , Olivia S.Koval and Kyle J. Koval and numerous extended family members who she loved dearly. Sue was a 1957 graduate of Academy High School in Erie. She attended Penn State University. She retired as the Director of Volunteers Services from Mount Nittany Medical Center, formerly Centre Community Hospital, after twenty-five years of service. Sue was the past President of the Pennsylvania Society of Directors of Volunteer Service and the past President of the Council of Society President’s with the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania.She formerly worked for PSU President John Oswald, opening up University House for Trustees, now called Hintz Center. She was happiest being surrounded by family and friends, cooking and visiting the Outer Banks. She had the ability to make everyone feel like they were the most important person in the room. Visitation will be 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Saturday, May 16 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be directed to Mount Nittany Medical Center Volunteer Scholarship Fund or Healing Garden Fund.
