Obituary of Anastasia Brokloff

Anastasia “Ann” Brokloff, 85, of State College, died peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2015 at Juniper Village at Brookline. Born August 11, 1929 in Westernport, MD, she was the daughter of Felix William and Nellie Marie Myers Karalewitz. She married Ronald Dean Brokloff, on April 17, 1959, who preceded her in death on June 10, 2012. Ann is survived by her son, Ned Allen Brokloff of Ellicott City, MD. In addition to her parents and husband, Ann was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Joyce Keefer, and her brother, Paul Edward Karalewitz. Ann was a 1947 graduate of Bruce High School in Westernport, MD. She graduated from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Program, Cumberland, MD, becoming a registered nurse in 1950. Ann devoted her life’s work to nursing. While living in Cumberland, Ann worked at Memorial Hospital, eventually serving as the head nurse on the surgical floor. After moving to State College in 1967, she worked as a registered nurse at the Ritenour Health Center on the campus of Penn State University; State College Area School District; and the American Red Cross. Ann ran the local Red Cross Bloodmobile in State College until her retirement in1996. One of her favorite regular donors was Joe Paterno. She was a member of the State College Graduate Nurses Club and the Centre County American Diabetes Association. Ann and her husband ran the State College chapters of the Alzheimer’s Support Group and the Marfan Syndrome Support Group. Ann enjoyed sharing stories about her nursing career with everyone she met, and many of her close friends had similar connections to nursing. She was a loyal Penn State fan and loved listening to Penn State football and basketball games on the radio. She also never missed an episode of Jeopardy! But her favorite pastime was spending time with her son’s dachshund, Duke. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College, with Celebrant Jackie Hook officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown.
