Obituary of Gertrud Barsch

Gertrud Barsch 90 a resident of Foxdale Village in State College, died Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born March 23, 1925 in Hamburg, Germany the daughter of the late Hans Eggers and Magdalena Tohl. On Oct. 23, 1977 in State College, she married Gerhard Barsch who preceded her in death on July 10, 2011. Gertrud is survived by a son Reinhard Teetor of Pine Plains, NY and three stepdaughters, Miriam Brueggeman of Moody, Texas and her husband Darryl , Iris Marshall of Golden, Co. and her husband David, and Rebekka Fox-Craig of New Castle California and her husband Michael and one stepson, Roman Barsch, residing in Germany. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Erik Teetor, and a brother, Reinhard, who died in WWII. Gertrud received her Master's in Entomology from Cornell University, she was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, State College. Gertrud was an active member of the State College Choral Society and they traveled the world to sing. She was also an avid spinner and knitter and belonged to the local Spinning Club. Gertrud was a member of the local Recorder Society and played her recorder in various venues. Gertrud and her late husband Gerhard Barsch were also both members of the Sycamore Society, a Christian group that gathered in various members' homes. She loved hiking with her husband and they have traveled the world hiking various mountains from Mt Fiji to the Austrian Alps and many in between. They particularly enjoyed the local mountains in Pennsylvania and the Adirondack Mountains in New York State. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 245 Main St. Ste.520, White Plains, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of the Koch Funeral Home.
