Obituary of Virginia Mae (Keller) Shaffer

Virginia Mae (Keller) Shaffer, 88, of Manheim, PA, formerly of State College, went to rest peacefully with the Lord on Friday morning, February 12, 2016, at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim surrounded by her loving family. She enjoyed water aerobics, walking, making bread, canning fruits and vegetables, playing ping pong, and spending time with her family. She was born in Arch Springs on June 11, 1927 and was the daughter of the late Arthur and Emma (Stewart) Keller. She was married in Altoona on June 14, 1951 to James D. Shaffer. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year. In addition to her husband, she is survived by seven children, Carol K. Shaffer and Linda V. Shaffer both of Alexandria, VA, George N. Shaffer of Zion, Wanda J. Shaffer of Alexandria, VA, James A., husband of Lori (Burk) Shaffer, of Parker CO, Paul N., husband of Elizabeth (Chapman) Shaffer, of Manheim, and Marjorie A. wife of Forrest Brackbill, Mechanicsburg; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary M. Karpowich, and a son-in-law, Stuart M. Spencer. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College followed by interment at Centre County Memorial Park, State College. The family will receive guests on Thursday, February 18th from 2 – 3:00 p.m. in Hoffer Auditorium, Pleasant View Retirement Community 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim. The family will also receive guests on Friday, February 19th from 5 – 7:00 p.m. at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College.
