Obituary of Queen Esther Black

Queen Esther Black, 87, of State College, died Monday, March 14, 2016, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. Born March 4, 1929 in Durham, NC, she was the daughter of the late Willie James and Henrietta Gilmore Monroe. Queen is survived by four children, James A. Black and his wife Jocelyn, of Groton, MA, Willie H. Black, of Florence, KY, Glenn A. Black and his wife, Vivian, of Pleasant Gap, Terri L. Black, of Groton, MA, a sister, Fannie Mae Walton, of Parkton, NC, twelve grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and thirteen great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert L. Black and two grandchildren. Queen was employed as a nurse assistant at St. Frances Hospital. She enjoyed watching the CBS network, Soap Operas, Golden Girls. Queen also loved to read. Visitation will be 11:30 until 1 p.m., on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Boalsburg Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
