Obituary of John A. Schalk

John A. Schalk, of Centre Hall, passed away on Feb. 17, 2017 at his home. Born June 11, 1946 in Springfield Mass., he was the adopted son of the late Marshall and Dorothy Schalk, of Northampton Mass. He is survived by three sons, William Schalk of Florence, Mass., Kiernan M. Schalk of Lemont, Derek M. Schalk and wife Beth Crumb of Windber; grandchildren, Tyler Adams, Nathan Adams, Brennan Schalk and Cheryl Schalk of Windber and Stephen Schalk of Florence Mass. Also surviving are a sister Dory Brown and husband Julian Brown of Newton, Mass.; brother, David Schalk of Poughkeepsie, NY; sister-in-law, Ninon Schalk of El Paso, TX; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Ellery Schalk of El Paso, TX. He was a teacher, forester and United States Air Force veteran. John was an avid reader, traveler and devoted Boston Red Sox fan. He had a gift for gab and enjoyed the outdoors. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on March 4, 2017 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College.
