Barbara Brame

Obituary of Barbara Correll Brame

Mary Barbara Correll Brame, 'Barb', passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 22, 2017, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania comforted by her two daughters on June 22 after a long and courageous fight against Alzheimer's. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Jack Brame.

Barb was born on June 21, 1931, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Paul and Mary Correll. She attended high school at John Harris High School in Harrisburg and graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1953. She married Jack in 1954 and they made their home and raised their five children in State College, Pennsylvania. In 1991 Barb and Jack relocated to Reston, Virginia. Following Jack's death in 2000 Barb returned to State College.

Once the five children were all off to school Barb worked for five years as a crossing guard at the corner of Garner Street and Easterly Parkway. Afterwards she worked at the State College Area High School library and also became the State High Cheerleading coach for a period of 10 years, where she was affectionately referred to as 'Lady' by her surrogate daughters. In 1991 she retired from the High School.

On her return to State College Barb worked tirelessly as a volunteer, most notably for the Penn State Sports Museum, the Grace Lutheran Church, and Meals on Wheels. She stopped her volunteer work when her illness wouldn't allow her to continue.

Barb lived everything Penn State blue and white and State College maroon and gray. The spirit developed when she was a cheerleader in High School and never left her and she carried this through her entire life, rarely missing her favorite sporting events.

Barb had a love for all people but her greatest love until the end was always family. It was a trait she instilled in her children. Some of her greatest joys were summer vacations when all the children and grandchildren got together.

Barb is survived by a sister, Joan Nutting and her husband Larry of Flower Mound, Texas, a brother Dave Correll and his wife Diana of Toms River, New Jersey; five Children, Ken (Carol) Brame of Lewisburg, PA; Kathy (Don) Bierly of Loganton, PA; Cheryl (Wayne) Vincent of Stewartstown, PA, Richard (Nikki) Brame of Stanwood, WA and Doug Brame of Scarborough, Maine; fourteen grandchildren, Stephen Brame of Harrisburg, PA, Patrick Brame of Milwaukee, WI, Rachel Brame of Lewisburg, PA, Fred Yearick of State College, PA, Lisa Yearick of Mesa, AZ, Zachary Vincent of Stewartstown, PA, Luke (Cassie) Vincent of State College, PA, Matthew Vincent of Arlington, VA, Joel (Hannah) Brame of Plainfield, IN, Scott (Amy) Fisher of Darrington, WA, Christy (Matt) Bleichner of Darrington, WA, and John (Sherri) Monte of Camano Island, WA, Nathan and Trevor Brame of Scarborough, ME; one great-granddaughter, Edith Fisher and great-grandson, Tanner Yearick; several nieces and nephews.
