Obituary of Gary Morlang
Gary Michael "Mike" Morlang, 66, of Petersburg, died Monday, October 30, 2017 in Silver Spring, MD.
Born November 8, 1950, in Russellville, KY, he was the son of the late Hubert Eugene and Anna Louise Rice Morlang. On March 17, 1995 he married Suzanne H. Hall, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Scott Morlang and his wife, Vicki, of Virginia Beach, VA and Matt Morlang and his wife, Jesse, of Charlestown, IN; a brother, Joe Morlang and his wife, Shirley, of Kearney, MO; five adored grandchildren, Laurann, Nic, Maggie, Kendal and Beckett; loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Ida Clay Morlang.
He was a 1968 graduate of Jeffersonville High School, Jefferson, IN. Mike received a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Purdue University in 1979 and a Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering from Penn State University in 1985.
He served in the United States Navy, retiring in 1993 as Lieutenant Commander after 23 years of service. Mike also retired from Penn State University in 2008 after 10 years of service. He was currently working as a Research Reactor Inspector for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Rockville, MD.
Mike was a member of the American Legion, Post 245, State College, the VFW, Post 5825, Pine Grove Mills, the Elks, Lodge 1094, Bellefonte and the First Order of Eagles, Jeffersonville, IN.
Visitation will be from 1 until 3 p.m., on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will follow at 3 p.m., at the funeral home with Celebrant Jackie Hook officiating.
Burial will take place by the United States Navy at sea.
