Obituary of Kenneth Sherwood Poorman

Kenneth Sherwood Poorman, 91, of State College, died Monday, December 25, 2017, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born November 27, 1926, in Runville, he was the son of the late Raymond L. "Pete" and Alice Naomi Stover Poorman. On October 30, 1948 he married Betty Jane Jackson, who survives at home. In addition to his wife of 69 years, Ken is survived by his daughter, Donna J. Poorman of State College; grandson, James R. Weller; four great-grandchildren, C.J., Brittany, Devon, and Angel. He predeceased in death by his daughter, Carolyn Weller. Ken graduated from State College Area High School in 1944. He served in the US Navy during World War II. Ken worked as a postal clerk until his retirement in 1989. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Friday, December 29, 2017 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College, with Rev. Susan Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be directed to Pine Hall Lutheran Church, 1760 W College Ave, State College, PA 16801, or American Legion Post 245, 1950 Pine Hall Road, State College, PA 16803, in memory of Kenneth Sherwood Poorman.
