Obituary of Arlan S. Temeles

Arlan S. Temeles, born December 21, 1933, died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on January 16, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife Marlene Temeles and son in law Jeffrey Semion. He is survived by his daughter, Lisanne Temeles, an extended family and group of life-long friends with whom he was very close. Arlan was the son of Sam & Anna Temeles. He grew up in Weirton, West Virginia and Pittsburgh the youngest of 4 siblings. After a fun and loving childhood and graduation from Peabody High School in Pittsburgh, he attended Penn State, served in the Army and graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts. He looked forward to catching up with old friends at High School and College reunions. While attending Penn State he met his future wife Marlene. They were married June 21, 1959. They loved their time at Penn State so much that they decided to make State College their home. Over the years they enjoyed being a part of the community, hosting parties and always having a house full of people. They were delighted to welcome visiting friends and family. Throughout his life, Arlan felt strongly about keeping in touch with the people he loved and made a point to attend their special events. Arlan's entrepreneurial spirit began when he and his friend opened Nittany Putt Par, a miniature golf course in Patton Township in 1960. He owned and operated his insurance agency, Arlan Temeles Insurance, for more than 50 years. In addition, he was a landlord who enjoyed his interactions with the students who rented from him. While devoted to his businesses, he achieved the balance of working hard and having fun. His employees became members of his family and his clients became friends. Arlan was a member of Congregation Brit Shalom and many civic organizations. He loved sailing, Bald Eagle State park, travel, PSU sports and the performing arts. For years, he volunteered in the community wherever there was a need. He was known for his big heart, energy and zest for life. He smiled, hugged and had a great sense of humor. His curiosity and genuine interest in people of all walks of life made him a very special person. Arlan's family would like to thank Grane Hospice for their excellent care and loving support.
