Obituary of David Meder

David R. Meder, 78, of State College, departed this life on September 3, 2011 at home. Born September 7, 1932, in Rochester New York, he was the son of the late Casper J. and Rita Warren Meder. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio joining the Army in 1952. He served in Korea and was stationed at Fort Huachuca in Arizona. David graduated cum laude from Lebanon Valley College in 1959 with a BS in Economics and Business Administration. He received the PICPA award upon graduation and became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). In October of 1954 he married Gloria Meder, who survives along with his children, David and his wife Judy, Debbie and husband Larry Gohn, and Elaine and husband Bill Wilgus, all of State College; four grandchildren, Jillian, Jennifer, Christopher and Mel; and one great grandchild, Aubri. Then, in April, 1988 he married Mildred Cornelison who survives along with her children, Jeanette and husband Tim Donahue, Linda and husband Donnie Nyman; and three grandchildren Joshua and Jaytricia Nyman and Joe Donahue; and great grandchildren Kaylah and Donovan. During his career, David worked for Price-Waterhouse, Philco Ford and Dolly Madison Industries in Philadelphia. In 1970 he joined Chemcut as Controller and later became Treasurer as well, traveling to Germany often to visit the Chemcut's Solingen Office. He later worked for Zetachron and other companies in Pittsburgh and Williamsport before retiring. He was an avid bowler. He bowled a number of 300 perfect games and was a member of the Seven Mountains Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He was one of the founders of the Seven Mountains Sunday Bowling Tournaments. After he retired he was a member of the Senior Bowling Tour and won numerous PBA awards. David was an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church for many years, serving as lay reader and a member of the Vestry and the Finance Committee. He also served as a delegate to the Diocesan Convention and served on several committees for the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania. He was a member of Altrusa International, Inc. of Blair County and Treasurer of Altrusa International District Two and traveled to numerous district and national events with Mildred. Those wishing to pay their respects will be received from 6-8pm on Wednesday, September 7th at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. A funeral service will be conducted at 10am on Thursday, September 8th at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 208 W. Foster Ave. State College with the Venerable Canon Daniel L. Selvage officiating and Deacon Joseph DeLauter assisting. A reception will immediately follow the service in Room 325 of the Parish Life Center. Inurnment in the Saint Andrew's columbarium will be conducted during the 8am service on Sunday, September 18th . Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church Parishioner's Ministry or Altrusa International of Blair County, 222 Bedford St, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
