Kae Spoerl

Obituary of Kae Louise Spoerl

Kae Louise (Meyer) Spoerl, 80, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the Mount Nittnay Medical Center with her loving family by her side.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on January 25, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Mary (Beadle) Meyer.

Kae was a graduate of Gettysburg College where she majored in English and Math and is an alumni of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She was a teacher for several years before becoming a homemaker. She and her friends ran a successful needle point business (Needle Niche). She raised her children in Cumberland, MD.

Kae loved the beach and spent most of her summers in Surf City, NJ where she was a part time resident until the late 2000's. You could always find her sun bathing, reading a good book at the beach, socializing with her friends and family and of course entertaining. She loved a good card game or game of dominos.

Kae moved to State College, PA in the early 1990's where she became the biggest Penn State fan. On any given Saturday rain or shine you could find her at Beaver Stadium cheering on the Lions. She also loved to watch men's and women's basketball, often traveling with Rene and the women's basketball team, as well as men's gymnastics and volleyball.

Kae was a member of the Quarterback Club where she never missed a luncheon and wanted to make sure she had the best scoop on what to expect at the next game. Kae loved football so much with one of her favorite memories being able to attend the Rose Bowl in 2009. Despite the Lion's demise she enjoyed the game especially the parade; the beautiful floats and smell of sweet roses.

Kae was an active member of the Presbyterian Church serving on the Church Board of Trustees, Administrative Council, and Building Committee during the time of their renovations as well as serving on the Steering Committee Capital Fund Campaign.

Kae lived a very social life attending weekly bridge games with friends, being an active member in the Church and weekly meals with friends. She enjoyed all of her great company, a really good drink and of course the food, never letting a bite go to waste, not even the BUTTER! Kae was loved and adored for her honesty, quick wit, and great personality right until the last minute. She was able to travel often with one of her favorite trips being to Ireland with her daughter Jody. Kae was a very strong and independent woman; battling and beating cancer five times.

She is preceded in death by her loving parents and sister, Karen Meyer Senderling.

Left to cherish her memories are her three loving children; Richard Spoerl (Lisa) of Queensbury, NY, Steve Spoerl (April) of Spring Hill, TN and her daughter Jody Adams (Kevin) of Garner, NC. KK's six beautiful grandchildren Katie Leonka (Brendan), Michael, Karl, Wade, Evan Spoerl, and Jamie Adams. Katie and Brendan are expecting their first child in July who will be KK's first great grandchild. Armando Portillo and family from Colima, Colima Mexico have been a part of Kae's life since 1977 through the American Field Service Program. Many special friends which remain close to her heart.
