Obituary of Karen Kauffman

Karen Kauffman, 72, of Pa Furnace, went to be with her Savior on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born January 23, 1939, in Abbington, she was the daughter of the late Alfred O. and Dorothy Hart Rasmussen. She married Boyd F. Kauffman on September 28, 1956 who preceded her in death. She is survived by four children, Deborah Lynn Mong, of Louisiana, Christina Marie Allshouse, of State College, Scott F. Kauffman, of Pa Furnace, and Michelle R. Detwiler and her husband, Jon, of Dubois; four sisters, Helen Lafferty, of Eagleville, Marie Vagnoni, of Norristown, Jane Bray and her husband, Allen, of Schwenksville, Dorothy Kovacs and her husband, Joseph, of Clinton, MI, one brother John Hynes and his wife, Judith, of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Shane Kauffman, Lauren McLaughlin, Derek Mong, Lindsay Mong-Chauvin and Eric Detwiler and two great grandchildren, Kaitlin Mong and Camden McLaughlin. She is also survived by her husband's family; Sue Gummo, of Alexandria, Pete Kauffman and his wife, Shelva, of Pa Furnace, Darlene Hoch and her husband, Ed, of LeMasters and Roy Kauffman, of Philipsburg. She was a 1956 graduate of State College Area High School. Karen attended the Fairbrook United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, crafts, dancing, card games and going to the beach. She was a volunteer at the Jerry Lewis Telethon. She was an avid fan of Penn State and Notre Dame Visitation will be 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2011 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St. State College. A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gene W. McCallips officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at 3544 N. Progress Avenue #205, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or the Muscular Dystrophy Association at 2040 Linglestown Road, Suite 104, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
