Obituary of Norbert Konrad Gieros

Beloved husband and father, Norbert Konrad Gieros, 49, of Boalsburg, died 13.57, Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Born on October 12, 1971, in Bielawa, Poland, he was the son of Eligiusz, now of Port Hardy, Vancouver Island and Leokadia Tomska Gieros now of Toronto, Ontario, who both survive. On 22 July 2000, Norbert first married Rose Cameron on Vancouver Island. He then married her again on 15 October, 2010, in Sedona, Arizona. She survives but is considering that a fudgeable term.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Ariana Gieros, Autism & migraine awareness advocate extraordinaire, of Boalsburg. She was his everything. He was preceded in death by a much-loved sister, Olivia Gieros.

Norbert was a voracious student of life. He loved comparative religions – growing up Polish Roman Catholic he explored Judaism, Druidism, Islam, Zen and Theravadin Buddhism. He travelled globally throughout his lifetime, from Poland to Toronto to NYC and Boston, Greece, London, Vancouver, BC, Vashon Island, Washington, Texas and Pennsylvania. Norbert never completed his education; he just kept extending it. He crossed the USA over 8 times. He was a dancer in Toronto, a carpenter in Massachusetts & Washington State, a student of Zen Buddhism and a monk of Theravadin Buddhism in Thailand & Laos. He spoke Polish, English, French and Pali. He was a garret musician and an eternal daydreamer. He was a father who adored his daughter and had devoted much of his life to her care.

Here in State College, Norrie returned to Roman Catholicism as a result of a major illness followed by a religious epiphany. He joined Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and was active in their hospice care program. He believed that the way to absolve himself of past wrongs was through the care of the vulnerable. He was quite committed to that work – including caring for his wife, daughter and mother-in-law through their recent illnesses during, but not related to, the pandemic.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2021 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, with Father Neil Dadey officiating.
