Obituary of JoAnne Marie Davis

JoAnne Marie Davis, 89, a resident of The Village at Penn State, died Saturday, February 6, 2021. She was born in Altoona, PA on November 15, 1931, the daughter of Samuel Whitney Keller and Dorothy Vera Keller. On August 15, 1953, in Altoona, PA, she married James M. Davis, now deceased. JoAnne is survived by her children, Craig Davis and his wife Mariana of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Lynn Hellmuth and her husband Frank of Charlotte, North Carolina; three grandchildren whom she loved deeply: Whitney Davis, Reid Davis, and Scott Hellmuth; four precious great-grandchildren: Violet Davis, Keegan Davis, Mila Davis, and Judson James Davis, and her sister, Dottye King, of West End, North Carolina.

JoAnne was a 1949 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1950 graduate of Zeth Business School. Over the years she held various clerical positions with the Altoona Mirror, Bell Telephone, Montgomery College and Montgomery County Lawyers Association in Rockville, Maryland, and Great Ideas for Teaching in Wilmington, North Carolina.

She cherished her family and treasured the roles of loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She warmed the souls of her family with her kindness and their hearts with her famous homemade chocolate chip cookies.

JoAnne was a member of PEO, a philanthropic organization celebrating, educating, and motivating women, while in North Carolina. In State College, she was a member of the State College Presbyterian Church.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff and healthcare professionals at The Village at Penn State for their care and compassion.

A private memorial service and internment will be at the convenience of the family.
