Nancy Erdley

Obituary of Nancy L. Erdley

Nancy L. Erdley, 84, of State College, died peacefully Friday, March 26, 2021, at home, with her son Todd at her side.

Born July 16, 1936, in Bratton Township, Mifflin County, she was the daughter of Vance Irvin and N. Louella Youtzy Espigh. On November 28, 1957 she married Richard Erdley, who survives.

In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by a son, Todd A. Erdley and his wife Julia of State College; three sisters, Lois Notestine of Belleville, Ida Hambright of McVeytown, and Mildred Smith of Lewistown; one grandchild, Alan and his wife Katie of Boulder, CO; and two great grandchildren, Enzo and Leo. She was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Espigh; and a sister, Rhoda Jane Davis. Family has been very important to Nancy and there is not a day that went by where she was not on the phone with her sisters, son, grandson, or great grandsons.

Nancy graduated from Bratton McVeytown Oliver High School in 1954. After marrying Richard and giving birth to Todd, she balanced her time between being a loving mother, participating in community events with friends, and providing a wonderful home. In time she returned to the workforce where she worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Penn State University School of Music before her retirement in 1996. Nancy loved nothing more than taking care of her School of Music "kids" and getting to know them personally.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge. Nancy's passion was the Harris Township Lions Club where she took on many roles including responsibility for sick and sympathy. Be it working at Ag Progress Days, or making applesauce, the Harris Township Lions Club has been a source of great joy in Nancy's life. Most of all, Nancy loved her family. Nancy had a gift for getting to know people and making everyone she met feel like family.

Nancy touched many lives through her amazing gift of caring about people. Nancy's passing leaves a hole in many hearts.
