Obituary of Bernice Josephine Terrizzi

Bernice Josephine Terrizzi, 93, of State College, passed away Friday, July 16, 2021, at Centre Care, after a brief illness.

Born November 5, 1927, in Rossitor, PA, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Victoria (Slavicsky) Bogus. On Jan. 3, 1953, she married Carmen Joseph Terrizzi, who preceded her in death on April 12, 2020.

She is survived by four children, Janice Youngblood (Tom), Davis, WV, Rick Terrizzi (Leeane), Houston, TX, Ann McGlaughlin (Ron), State College, Ray Terrizzi (Georgi), State College; one sister, Mary Miller, of St. Benedict, PA; nine grandchildren, Thomas Youngblood (Krista), Matthew Youngblood (Crystal), Jaci Booth (Scott), Lauren Terrizzi, Lindsey Terrizzi, Alec McGlaughlin (Alanna), Caitlin McGlaughlin, Jordan Terrizzi and Ryan Terrizzi; five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Quinn and Florence Minarish and five brothers, John, Edward, Stanley, James and Bernard Bogus.

Bernice was a 1945 graduate of Carrolltown High School, Carrolltown, PA, where she played baritone saxophone in the band and orchestra, was a member of the Girls' Glee Club and an editor of The Mountaineer yearbook.

After high school, Bernice attended cosmetology school and practiced as a beautician for several years until devoting all her time and energy to her growing family. Once her youngest children were grown, she owned and operated The Village Shop in Huntingdon, PA for a number of years. After that, she was a knowledgeable and valued employee of Black's Jewelry store in Huntingdon until her retirement.

Bernice enjoyed spending time with family and friends, supporting her children and grandchildren's activities, traveling, reading, keeping up with current events and gardening, particularly tending her rose bushes. Until Carmen's declining health made it impossible, the two were inseparable, spending many hours caring for their home and each other, and sitting together on their porch swing. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Burial will be in Saint Benedict Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carrolltown, PA.
