Obituary of Augusta Joanna Maria Der Kinderen

Augusta Joanna Maria Der Kinderen, 80, of State College, died Monday, August 2, 2021, at UPMC Altoona Hospital.

Born October 25, 1940, in Arendonk, Belgium, she was the daughter of the late Franciscus Henricus and Anna Catharina Janssen Hendrickx. On July 14, 1969, she married her love ("schatje") Gustavus Antonius Der Kinderen, who survives.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Dirk F. Der Kinderen of Reston, VA, and Jan B. Der Kinderen of State College; eight siblings; and two grandchildren, Josef and Eduard (sons with Dirk's wife, Melissa Shields). She was preceded in death by two siblings.

Augusta was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was an active member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. She enjoyed knitting, bowling, Sunday brunches with friends and spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved very much. Augusta often traveled to Belgium to visit with family, took nature walks, and frequently welcomed guests into her home for a coffee and a nice chat. Augusta was a patient woman who always took time to smell the flowers, share a laugh or offer a kind word.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 13, 2021, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, with Father Michael Pleva officiating.
