Obituary of Esther M. Luse

Esther Marie Corl Luse, 93, of Wynwood House, Boalsburg, died Sunday, Aug. 22, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

She was born Feb. 19, 1928, in Pine Grove Mills, the daughter of the late William Albert and Clara Trostle Corl, the fourth of 10 children. Esther graduated in 1945 from State College High School and worked at Pattee Library at Penn State University. As part of a musical family she played piano and violin.

On May 8, 1948, she married Dean S. Luse at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pine Grove Mills. They set up housekeeping on the Luse family farm in Centre Hall, later moving to Pleasant Gap, Lemont and finally Pine Grove Mills.

Esther was a member of the State College Alliance Church, the Pine Grove Mills Lions Club, the Gideons and in her early years the Grange. She kept the postal service in business with the many cards and letters she sent to family and friends and always had a camera at hand. She enjoyed traveling to visit family out west, as well as shorter trips in the Mid-Atlantic.

Esther was predeceased by her husband and two children, Bradley Robert Luse and Ellen Luse Woods; brothers, William Corl and James Corl, and sisters Elizabeth Whitbred and Shirley Radar. Surviving are children James Luse and wife, Beth, Winston, Ore., Nancy Luse, Frederick, Md., Shelby Luse and wife, Alison, Centre Hall, Pa.; daughter-in-law Karen Taylor and husband, Maurice, Sebring, Fla.; grandchildren, Brandie Luse Taylor, Florida; Evie Kumar, Oregon; Heather Whittaker, Washington; Jeremiah Woods, Oregon; Josiah Luse, Pennsylvania; Jeffrey Luse, Virginia; Daniela Moravec, Illinois; Justin Umbower, California; Micah Taylor, Florida, and Leah Stevens, South Carolina; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers Sheldon Corl, State College, and Ted Corl, Pine Grove Mills; sisters Beverly Haines, Florida, Connie Levine, Bellefonte, and Barbara Spindler, Tyrone, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Pine Grove Presbyterian Church with Pastor Carl Campbell officiating. Internment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
