Obituary of Mary Margaret Kibelbek

Mary Margaret Kibelbek, 90, of State College, died Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Foxdale Village.

Born March 19, 1931, in Pittston, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Emma Evans Boyle. On August 1, 1959 she married Anthony Kibelbek, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are two children, Anthony M. "Tony" Kibelbek and his wife, Vicki Wertz, of Altoona and Julia Kibelbek and her husband, Matthew Junker, of Emmaus; two grandchildren, Eric A. and Caroline M. Junker, and five siblings, James Boyle, William Boyle, Theresa Boyle, Rosie Dabson, and Catherine Boyle. She was preceded in death by three siblings, Edward, Joseph and Betty. 

Mary graduated from Misericordia College in 1953 with a B.S. in Home Economics and Science Education. She worked as a dietician and home economics teacher in Wilmington, DE from 1953-1959. After marrying Anthony and moving to State College, she taught in the State College school district, then substituted in the Bellefonte, Penns Valley, and Bald Eagle school districts, obtaining her Elementary Certification from Misericordia in 1973. Mary taught elementary grades 3-6 in the Panorama and Boalsburg schools from 1974-1994, when she retired.

Mary was a beloved teacher who inspired an appreciation of reading in many children. She had a lifelong interest in learning, especially in history and art. After her retirement, she volunteered as a docent at the Palmer Museum of Art from 1994-2014 with a particular gift for helping children understand and connect to art. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, known for her genuine love and concern for others. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Victory.

Visitation will be Monday, November 29, 2021 from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College. A funeral mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Father George Jakopac officiating.

Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Foxdale Village Training and Tuition Reimbursement Fund in Mary's name.
