Obituary of Howard S. Eckstut

Howard S. Eckstut, 65, of State College, PA formerly of Philadelphia, PA, died Monday, March 21, 2022, at Penn Hospital in Philadelphia, PA after fighting a short courageous battle with cancer.

Howard was born on April 19, 1956 in Philadelphia. He was the son of the late Max and Dorothy Eckstut. He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Eckstut (formerly Abramson) of State College whom he married on May 24, 2009.

He is survived by his two daughters, Brooke Eckstut Pomeroy and husband Dennis, of Jamison, PA; and Ilyse Marcinkiewicz and husband Patrick, of Reading, PA; 6 grandchildren, Emma, Ava, Joshua Pomeroy and Devyn, Ayla and Paige Marcinkiewicz. He is also survived by his siblings, Penny Leibowitz (Lanny preceded in death) of Philadelphia, Andrea Colten (Lewis), Boston, MA and Nate Eckstut (Sheryl preceded in death) of Philadelphia, brother and sister-in-law Ellis and Lynn Abramson and his mother-in-law Irene Abramson of State College as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Howard was a graduate of Central High School and attended Temple University. He worked as a Financial Advisor for PNC in State College after a long, successful career in banking.

He was active in many organizations including serving on the Financial Board for Congregation Brit Shalom, Penn State Alumni Assoc, Nittany Lion Club, SAR Fraternity and was a loyal PSU Season Ticket holder.

Howard enjoyed living life to the fullest, including traveling with his wife and family as well as many friends. He also loved creating memories with all his grandchildren whom he adored and loved so much. Additionally, he enjoyed playing pickleball, working out, passionate about all Philadelphia and Penn State sports teams and enjoyed his weekly movie and dinner night out with his group of friends. Mostly, Howard loved his family and it meant everything to him. He was a genuinely kind person that took every opportunity to help others and was a true mentor to many.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, March 23,2022, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S Atherton Street, State College, PA with Rabbi David Ostrich officiating. Burial will be at Centre County Memorial Park following the service.

The family will observe Shiva. First night will be in State College, PA at the home of Lynn and Ellis Abramson. There will be a second day of visitation on Thursday March 24th at the home of Howard's daughter, Brooke Eckstut Pomeroy in Jamison, PA.
