Obituary of Christine M. Irvin

Christine went to be with God on June 20, 2022 at Geisinger Hospital in Danville, Pennsylvania.

She was born on September 22, 1940, in Roanoke, Virginia to Collette and Robert D. Irvin, who along with her brothers Kelly and Timothy Irvin, preceded her in death. Christine is survived by her sisters Patricia Irvin Slagle (Barry Slagle), Jeanne Irvin Cocolin (Ken Benner), of State College, and Elizabeth Irvin Ross (Maury Ross), of Philadelphia, and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Although Christine lived in Spain and France for many years, she always considered State College her home.

She was a member of Our Lady Victory parish since 1957.

After graduating from Penn State, she was very active in the Pro-life movement and a strong supporter of legislation to protect the unborn. Christine participated in the peaceful pro-life marches in January for years.

In 1966, she realized her dream of living in Europe in order to learn more about the culture and customs of the people. Her sense of adventure led her to Paris, where she lived with a French family and taught the children English. After a few years, she moved to Spain and taught in a Catholic school near Madrid. Her enthusiasm for teaching greatly benefited her students. She enjoyed the experience.

When she returned to State College to live permanently in 2004, her love for learning continued. She became an instructor at Penn State, and took courses at Hillsdale College online. Always willing to help others, she volunteered at many church, and community functions.

Christine will be remembered for her joy for life, her kindness, her strong faith, and her love for God and family and friends.

Donations may be made in remembrance of Christine Irvin to Citizens Concerned for Human Life, PO 756, State College PA 16804 or to Gabriel Project in care of Our Lady of Victory Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College 16801.
