Obituary of Anna Hassinger Stearns

Anna Hassinger Stearns quietly departed this life at Foxdale Village on June 27, 2022 at the age of 94. She was born on September 15, 1927 in Oak Hall, PA, one of six children. She was the daughter of Nancy Johnson Hassinger and Ralph Thomas Hassinger. Preceding her in death along with her parents were brothers Philip Hassinger, Harry Hassinger, Thomas Hassinger, Richard Hassinger, and sister Betty Hassinger Eskew.

On June 5, 1948, she married Dan W. Stearns, enjoying 63 years of marriage until his death in 2011. Her son, Dan T. Stearns preceded her in death in November 2021.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Stearns of Blacksburg, VA, daughter-in-law Melinda Stearns of State College, four grandchildren: Andrew Stearns (Lindsey) of Salida, CO, Matthew Karfakis of Richmond, VA, Julie Karfakis (Marcus Travis) of Washington, DC, Evan Stearns (Kellie) of State College, and six great grandchildren.

A graduate of State College High School in 1945, Anna worked in various administrative assistant capacities at Penn State over the years. Her love for her family, her home, and growing and maintaining a beautiful flower garden were her passion. She enjoyed being a supporter of Penn State and traveling with family and friends. She was a member of State College Womens Club, Centre Squares Dance Club and Grace Lutheran Church in State College.

Gratitude is expressed to the staff at Foxdale Village for the excellent care Anna received while residing there for almost 11 years. The family respectfully requests flowers be omitted. If you choose to honor Anna's memory, donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 205 South Garner St, State College, PA 16801. The family will hold a private service at a later time and burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
