Obituary of Paula Lou Shelow

Paula Lou Shelow, 87, of State College, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022 at Geisinger Hospital in Danville, PA.

She was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late Vincenzo and Luigetta Misciagna Ciambotti, on January 7, 1935. She married William J. Shelow at the Holy Rosary Church in Altoona on November 25, 1954. He preceded her in death on February 9, 2001.

Paula is survived by her six children William J. Shelow Jr., Thomas J. Shelow, David M. Shelow and his wife Lisa, Mark V. Shelow and his wife Sandra, Stephen G. Shelow and his wife Cindy, and Susan M. Steyers and her husband James. Paula is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her nine brothers and sisters Laura Leiden, Gilbert Ciambotti, Mil Ciambotti, Rudolph Ciambotti, Naz Ciambotti, Lallie Fahr, Ann McManus, Rose Bryner, and Mary Alexander.

Paula was a graduate of Altoona High School. She worked for a number of years as an aide in the Social Studies Department at the State College Junior High School. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church in State College, and she volunteered with the Saint Vincent DePaul Society.

Raising her six children was always her pride and her priority. She also took great pleasure in spending significant time with her grandchildren which she cherished. She was always present to support them in their sporting events and activities. In her spare time she was known to develop some significant skills in the sport of slot machines as she and her husband enjoyed visiting casinos.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 3, 2022 at Our Lady of Victory Church in State College. Committal will be at the Boalsburg Cemetery in Boalsburg, PA where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, 1300 Benner Pike, State College, PA 16801.
