Our mother, Hazel (Rhoads) Markle, 91, of State College, passed away October 25, 2022.

Mother was born on October 28,1930 in Bellefonte, daughter of the late E. Leonard and Esther (Kellerman) Rhoads. She grew up in Coleville and graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1948. Hazel moved to State College in 1957 and worked at Penn State University from 1970 to 1995.

She is survived by daughters, Joyce (Bill) Blackwelder, of Pensacola, FL., Jacqueline Markle and Son-In-Law, Drew Frank, of State College, grandchildren, Ethan (Leanne) and Wyeth Frank, John Perry Blackwelder, and Lisa (Val) Tisdale, four great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter and Sister-In-Law, Joyce Buerk. She is also survived by 24 nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Hazel was predeceased by her daughter, Jean (Drew) Frank, and siblings, Marie Lucas, Ruth Smith, Pauline Stonebraker, Leonard Rhoads, Esther Thomas and Tom Rhoads.

Hazel was very creative, knitting personalized Christmas stockings for family members and sewing quilts for many newborns. She had a quick wit and her family was her greatest pride. Mother leaves us with great memories and will be in our hearts forever.

A celebration of Hazel's life will be held at a later date.
