Obituary of John Kevin Parry

J. Kevin Parry, 69, of Stormstown, died Monday, March 27, 2023, at home. Born on May 20, 1953, Kevin was the son of Mary Rita, and was raised by his mother and aunt, Dolores Quinn. He married Rosemary C. Schwoerer on October 15, 1983, who survives at home. Kevin is survived by his three girls; Lucia (Aaron) of Lancaster, PA, Rachel (Michael) of Dallas, TX, and Hannah (Nick) of Tucson, AZ, and his many grandkitties. Kevin grew up in Bryn Mawr, PA, and was a graduate of The Hyde School. After high school, he attended St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, where he met and fell in love with "the love of [his] life," Rosemary. After college, Kevin earned his Ph.D. from George Washington University and his M.D. from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. He was a practicing neurologist at Geisinger Medical Group in State College for 20 years, before retiring in 2013.

Kevin was an avid reader, he could read anywhere – the backseat of a car, a hot and sweaty pool natatorium, or the front porch, while enjoying the sun, on a lawn chair. He was also an amateur historian – he's read (very likely) every book about his favorite President, Mr. Abraham Lincoln, and he could discuss for hours the minute details of the Civil War, World War II, or Catholic and Jesuit history. While he may not have considered himself an outdoorsman, he loved to fish, kayak, and spend hours walking in the woods every day. Kevin was highly creative. He spent time woodworking, rearranging household staples in goofy ways, and curating special scrapbooks for his girls. Another one of his lesser-known gifts was his amazing wit and sense of humor, which ranged from the silly to the sublime. However, what Kevin will most be remembered for is his love of his four girls, whom he adored and inspired to be their very best. He was most happy when they were all together.

Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College.

A private funeral service for the family will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Saturday, April 1, with Father Jozef Kovacik officiating.
