Obituary of Barbara Ann Binkley

Barbara Ann Binkley, 93, of Lemont, died Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Juniper Village at Brookline. Barbara was born February 7, 1930, in Hanover, PA. She was the daughter of the late Preston L. and Effie M. (Jones) Masenheimer of Hanover, PA. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Raymond M. Binkley. They met when Barbara took a summer course at Penn State where Raymond attended the university. They were married June 19, 1955.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Rex A. Binkley of Lemont, PA and Kandace S. Binkley of Edgewater, MD; two grandchildren, Kaleigh Z. and Keagan J. Binkley of Edgewater, MD, and a brother, Fred (Betsy) Masenheimer. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ned (Phyllis) Masenheimer.

Barbara graduated from Eichelberger Senior High School, Hanover, PA where she was active in student council, yearbook and mixed chorus. She received a bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education from East Stroudsburg State Teachers College (now East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania) in 1952.

After college she taught health and physical education and coached field hockey at Hempfield High School, Landisville, PA. Once her children were grown, she returned to teaching as a teacher's aide at numerous schools including; Ferguson Township Elementary School Pine Grove Mills, PA, Fairmount, Lemont, and Park Forest Elementary Schools State College, PA, Lighthouse Daycare South Portland, ME, Nova University Elementary Fort Lauderdale, FL, Cross Christian Day School, Lexington, NC.

Barbara was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. For nearly 70 years she devoted her life to her family, church, and teaching. Barbara loved to sing and sang in a trio while in high school and in church choirs. She played the piano and organ.

Barbara was an active church member in all the places she lived and a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in State College, PA.
