Obituary of Catherine Petrino

Catherine "Dutchie" (O'Fria) Petrino, died peacefully at the home of her daughter in Medford, Mass on February 28, 2012. She was 88 years old. She was born on July 9, 1923 and grew up in South Philadelphia. She graduated from South Philadelphia High School in 1940. In 1941, she went to work for The United States Quarter Master sewing uniforms for soldiers going off to World War II. On October 12, 1946 she married the love of her life the late Ralph S. Petrino whom she cherished and faithfully cared for. Catherine was a successful businesswoman as owner of Petrino's Bridal Shoppe for 40 years. Besides being an avid seamstress she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, painting, playing cards and cooking. She was a member Our Lady of Victory Church and the Catholic Daughters for many years. Catherine loved traveling and spending many winters in Pompano Beach, FL with family and friends. Daughter of the late Charles and Helena O'Fria. Devoted and loving mother to Joan Gatto of Medford, MA. Catherine and her husband Joseph Lieb of Wyomissing. Monica and her husband Glynn Chase of Erie, and Ralph S. Petrino Jr. of State College and Prague, Czech Republic . Proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren Andrew Mittelman, David Mittelman, Jennifer Gatto and her husband Rodney Leonardo, Julie and her husband David Intoppa, Matthew Chase and his wife Tammy Ames, Jessica Gatto and her fiancé Anthony Pompeo, Katie Lieb, Brad Chase, Jaclyn Gatto, Craig Chase and Steve Lieb. 4 great grandchildren Wyatt Moyer, Anthony Mittelman, Britain Chase and Ava Intoppa. Loving sister of Theresa Stavola of Cherry Hill, NJ, and many loving nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at Koch Funeral home, 2401 South Atherton St., on Monday March 5, 2012, from 4 to 8PM. A mass of Christian burial at Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 10 AM. Tuesday March 6, 2012, 867 Grays Wood Blvd. Entombment will be at Centre County Memorial Park Mausoleum, College Township, 1032 Benner Pike, State College. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Catherine Petrino Memorial Fund at Penn State University, 1 Old Main, University Park, PA 16802, or to Hallmark Health V.N.A. and Hospice, Inc. 178 Savin Street, Malden, MA 02148.
