Obituary of Glenn Haney

Glenn Price Haney, 82, died on March 5, 2012, at Foxdale Village in State College, PA. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 59 years, Eleanor Dean Haney; three children: Richard L. Haney (Pam) of Richmond, VA, David A. Haney (Barbara) of Portland, OR and Deannine H. Shipman (Steve) of State College and a brother, Charles M. Haney (Roslyn) of Venice, FL. His eight grandchildren are: Leah Gaertner (Chris), Charlotte Rippy (John), Emily Davis (Mark), Melissa Henderson (Seth), Julia Haney, Abby Shipman, Joshua Shipman and Brittany Shipman. The three great-grandchildren are Austin, Bennett and Lucy Gaertner. Glenn was born and raised in Uniontown, PA and graduated from Strong Vincent High School in Erie, PA. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State (1951) and then received a Masters in Forestry from NC State (1953). He was awarded a NIPA fellowship at the University of Virginia in 1966. His many jobs in service to his country led him to move to many places where he always found new friends and volunteer opportunities. He was proud to serve for 37 years as a research forester, manager and senior executive for the US Forest Service and Dept of Agriculture. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Secretary of Agriculture (1985) and the Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive (1986). He retired in 1990 as Director of the Office of Information Resources Management. He retired to the place he loved so much and enjoyed all aspects of Penn State, including alumni groups and sporting events. In his retirement years he sang in the choir and served as an elder at State College Presbyterian Church, served as Moderator of Huntingdon Presbytery, and volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Kiwanis, both of State College. Glenn 's hobbies included genealogy research, golf, picture framing, and his Civil War reading group. He will be remembered for his kindness, honesty, wisdom and his devotion to family and friends. "Well done good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Master!" A memorial service is scheduled for 2 pm on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at State College Presbyterian Church, 132 W. Beaver Ave., State College, PA 16801. Memorial contributions may be made to State College Presbyterian Church.
