Obituary of Henry Johnson Jr.

Henry C. Johnson Jr. 83, a resident of State College, died Monday, June 25, 2012 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born March 21, 1929 in Butt, Montana he was the son of the late Henry C. and Goldie Putman Johnson Sr. He is survived by Digna Diana Gonzalez along with a daughter Annmarie Johnson of Pawley's Island, SC and a son David Johnson of Minneapolis, MN. Henry is also survived by Digna Diana Gonzal's three children Digna Denie Dager de Carbonell and her husband Jesus Miguel Carbonell, Pedro Humberto Dager and his wife Lucia Anderson de Dager, and Glenn Joseph Dager and his wife Alma Quevedo de Dager. Henry is survived by one granddaughter Amanda Marie Warneck and her husband Brad Warneck and by eight of Digna Diana Gonzal's grandchildren Pedro Jose Dager, Adriana Dager, Gabriela Dager, Glen Joseph Dager, Jr, Digna Maria Dager, Miguel Angel Dager, Damien Dager and Brandon Dager. Henry was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in State College. Henry said his happiest days of his life were going to class to teach. Henry served the Episcopalian community as a priest for many years Henry C. Johnson was Professor Emeritus in Education Theory and Policy at the Pennsylvania State University University Park. He received his A.B. in Philosophy and Classical Languages at Canterbury College, a B.D. in Theology from Nashotah House Episcopal Seminary, and a Ph.D. in History and Philosophy of education from the University of Illinois. Before coming to Penn State, he taught at Illinois State University and has served as a visiting professor at a number of other institutions, including the Catholic University of America, the University of Missouri, and Georgia State University. Professor Johnson's work and writing has been principally in the areas of educational history and philosophy, with particular emphasis on education and culture, secularization, the scientific movement and education, moral development, the nature and evaluation of teaching and the problems of technology and education. In addition to teaching and research in the United States, Professor Johnson has also lectured and served as a consultant in several Central and South American countries in the areas of educational theory and policy. A Memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in State College on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Richard Wall officiating.
