Obituary of Ardeth Frisbey

Ardeth Lickfeldt Frisbey, 86, of State College, died of natural causes on Friday, August 10, 2012, at Foxdale Village in State College. Born on August 2, 1926 in Ogemaw County, Michigan, she was the youngest of six children of the late George and Mabel Thornton Lickfeldt. She is survived by two nieces, Tammy Lickfeldt of Apache Junction, Arizona and Brenda Pannebecker of Adelphia, Maryland, an her care givers William and Barbara Saxton of State College. Ardeth was a graduate of Michigan State College in 1947. She married Norman Frisbey on September 9, 1950. He preceded her in death in March 24,1988. From 1959 to 1962 she and her husband lived in Tehran, Iran where he served as church secretary for the English-language Protestant church there. From 1962 -1963 she served as church secretary at a church in Washington, DC, while Norman worked for the Peace Corps. After they moved to State College in 1963, Ardeth worked as a foreign Student Advisor in the Penn State Office of International Students for 28 years, retiring in 1991. Ardeth was truly famous among the Penn State international students of that period for her work and selfless dedication to them. In her retirement, Ardeth was a "short term" missionary for the Association of Christian Schools International from 1993 to 2001, serving as the initial Office Manager of their headquarters in Budapest, Hungary. Since 2008 Ardeth had lived in Foxdale, where the staff and other residents enjoyed her ready smile, delightful laugh, and positive attitude. A memorial service for Ardeth will be held in the auditorium of Foxdale Village on Sunday, at 2 p.m. on August 26, 2012, with Rev. Dan Nold officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, designated for the PSU International Student Ministry Fund, or to the Ardeth and Norman Frisbey International Student Fund at Penn State.
