Obituary of Margaret Biederman

Margaret Jane White Biederman beloved daughter of the late Charlotte Margaret Isabel Pettit White and the late Wallace Earl White, Ph. D. of State College, Pennsylvania and the beloved wife of Edwin Williams Biederman, Jr, Ph D. married 55 years and survived by her sister, Rosalie Muir Keegan of Enfield, Connecticut departed from this world December 10, 2012. She was 81 years old and a member of Pine Grove Mills Anglican Church. 'Peggy' Jane was born in Bellefonte, PA and graduated from State College High School where she received the Eta Sigma Phi Medal for Excellence in Latin as well as 5 gold keys for photography. Following, she attended the Pennsylvania State University receiving a BS in Music and worked towards her Master's in Education. She taught second grade at Lewistown Area School District, first grade at Pine Grove Mills and was warmly remembered by her former pupils. Following matrimony to Edwin on August 23, 1958 at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in State College, the new couple moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. They then moved to East Windsor, New Jersey finally settling in State College, PA in 1972. Among her many interests, Peggy Jane played the organ prelude for Helen Aiken Eisenhower's funeral at St. Andrews and also sang in the choir for this service. Thus, she performed before President Eisenhower. She was an arranger of choir music for St. Andrews Choir and also composed an anthem which was sung for years at St. Andrews Church. She enjoyed art and painted a series of pictures dealing with coastal scenes along New England. In later years she focused on the knitting hats for newborns at Mt. Nittany Medical Center and Connemaugh Memorial Center. She recently received an award for 9000 hours of volunteer service to Mt. Nittany Medical Center. She will be remembered by her husband as one who was an encourager and one who would stand up for what she viewed as right. Peggy Jane is survived by her husband, Edwin Williams Biederman, Jr. PhD, 4 children: Robert Wallace Williams Biederman, MD, Mary Frances Margaret Wallace, Jane Anne Aileen Haertlein and James Andrew Edwin Biederman and their 11 children and one great grandchild. The Interment will be held at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, at 12 noon on Thursday, December 13 followed by a memorial service at 1 pm at St. Albon's Anglican Church, 146 Pine Grove Road, Pine Grove Mills, by Arch Bishop Counsel Nedd. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Centre County PAWS, 1401 Trout Road State College, PA 16801. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
